Videsh goes ahead with an ‘A’

The censor board had objected to certain scenes in the movie ‘Videsh’ based on the topic of domestic violence. They felt that some scenes that portrayed extreme violence on Preity Zinta (the main character of the story) being battered are too violent and brutal.

Director Deepa Mehta, who felt that the impact of the film will be diluted if the suggested scenes are removed, has chosen to release her film ‘Videsh’ with an “A” Certificate.
Supporting her view, CEO of BR Films - Sanjay Bhutiani says “The essence of the film is highlighting social issues and domestic violence is one among them. The Censor Board had objected to the cruelty shown in some scenes and therefore Deepa Mehta and BR Films have decided to go along with the “A” certificate which would not compromise on the creative integrity of the film”.
The film will hit the screens on March 27.
