Shamaayal won the title of the first Dancing Queen of India

In a nail-biting finish on night, aspirant Shamaayal won the title of the first Dancing Queen of India. Her mentor Sambhavana Seth’s happiness knew no bounds when the results were announced, and in fact, she broke down. The DQ Grand Finale was a spectacular episode, with Tusshar Kapoor as a special guest on the show. He performed along with Jeetendra.

The final performance of the finale pairs - Sambhavana -Shamaayal and Sanober and Mriga - was 10 minutes of non-stop entertainment. Fireworks lit the stage at the end of it, even as the audience shouted for an encore. The judges Hema Malini and Jeetendra both gave nine points each to both pairs of finalists. Special guest Helen, who was also on the jury, gave a 10/10 to both pairs - a first on the show.

So, the final tally was 28 points out of 30 for both pairs, resulting in a tie. The Dancing Queen then had to be decided only on the basis of audience votes, a majority of which went to Sambhavana and Shamaayal. So, even though Mriga’s performance was much better than Shamaayal’s on the final day, it was Shamaayal who clinched it, thanks to the overall performance in the show with her mentor Sambhavana.
