Russia's Ksenya Sukhinova is Miss World, Parvathy Omanakuttan Runners up

Russia's Ksenya Sukhinova was crowned Miss World 2008 beating many other international beauties, including India's Parvathy Omanakuttan who finished first runners up, at a glittering extravaganza held in South Africa.

Julia Morley, the Head of the Miss World Committee, presented her to the audience amidst a thunderous applause.

Parvathy, 21 yrs, who hails from Kottayam in Kerala, narrowly missed out on joining five Indian glamour queens Reita Faria (1966), Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan (1994), Diana Hayden (1997), Yukta Mookhey (1999) and Priyanka Chopra (2000) who had won the title.

The second runners up was Gabriel Walcott of Trinidad and Tobago.

More than 100 international beauties participated in this year's Miss World pageant, hosted by South Africa.

With more thanone billion viewers watching live in 187 countries, the women walked on stage in dresses by South African and Jamaican designers, while African dancers performed.

The contestants who were dressed in colorful gowns were introduced in groups while dancers entertained the crowd. With them all on stage, the flags of the world were paraded through the audience.

This year’s edition of the competition included an online competition where viewers can vote for their favourite beauty.
