2008 will see more first timers trying their hands behind the camera

U me aur Hum2007 saw a number of debutant directors like Aamir Khan (TZP), Sajid Khan (Heyy Baby), Navdeep Singh (Manorama Six Feet Under) and Sagar Ballary (Bheja Fry) making their mark. And 2008 will see more first timers trying their hands behind the camera.


Yash Raj’s action packed Tashan will be directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya, the writer of Dhoom series. He has also written dialogues for Guru and directed the first 260 episodes of Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahi.


The movie, which has been shot in Greece, Ladakh and Kerala, includes a big cast - Anil Kapoor, Akshay Kumar, Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor.

One time recluse Ajay Devgan will also be stepping behind the camera with U, Me Aur Hum. About his foray into direction, he says, “Acting just happened to me but I have always worked behind the camera. I started assisting dad at the age of 8 when I used to travel with him on the sets. I also assisted director Shekhar Kapoor and half directed Dushmani with him my film is straight from the heart I have been passionate about direction and finally my dream has come true.”


U Me Aur Hum is an emotional love story of Ajay and Kajol which begins on a cruise liner. There are parallel love stories of Sumeet Raghavan -Divya Dutta and Karan Khanna - Isha Shravani.

Vivek Sharma will treat all kids to the story of a child and a ghost in Bhoothnath. About the film, the director who has struggled in the industry for 12 years and has also worked for Shahrukh Khan’s Red Chilies, says, “It’s about innocence, honesty and pure love of child - a warm relationship between a child and ghost. It’s a dream come true that I am working with Big B and SRK.”

Yash Raj has decided to step into animation films with Roadside Romeo which they are producing in association with Walt Disney. And the reins of direction are in the hands of the ‘masoom’ Jugal Hansraj.


“It’s is a huge task for me to direct a film under Yash Raj and I’m very excited for the film to release but 40% of work is remaining,” says the actor turned director. The film will have the voice overs of Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor.


Dharma Productions too will see a debutant director - Tarun Mansukhani with Dostana. Tarun assisted Karan Johar from Kuch Kuch Hota Hai till Kabhie Alvida Na Kehna and before that worked under Anand Mahendroo for Dekh Bhai Dekh.


The film stars Abhishek Bachchan, John Abraham, Priyanka Chopra and Bobby Deol in a special appearance.


Well let’s see what these fresh talents can deliver.
