Saif unwinds with Kareena and his parents

After the wonderfully positive response for Love Aaj Kal, Saif decided to unwind from all that pre-release stress by spending some quality time with family. Karren also joined them all.

"I was a little under the weather on Friday and very anxious about how Love Aaj Kal will be received. But now I'm fine. Yes, Kareena and I were chilling out with abba (Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi) and amma (Sharmila Tagore) all day on Friday," said Saif.

Saif flew into Delhi for a special screening of Love Aaj Kal on Thursday. After the event, rest of the Love Aaj Kal cast and crew flew back - director Imtiaz Ali to Mumbai, Deepika Padukone to London, but Saif stayed back.

Saif flew to Delhi fro a speacial screening of Love Aaj Kal on Thursday. After the even, the rest of them went their way, Saif chose to stay back at Delhi. Saif had a cozy time with Kareena, his mom and his dad.

The film released on Friday and got an overwhelming response. "The reports coming in about Love Aaj Kal are very encouraging. Both the reviews and the box office collections have been very generous. I couldn't have hoped for a better start as a producer," said Saif.

Harleen of Love Aaj Kal is a Brazilian model

Every person who has watched Love Aaj Kal is all ga-ga over the innocent looking Punjabi girl opposite Saif. Guess what, she is a Brazilian model named Giselle Monteiro who couldn’t even speak Hindi when she started off!

Director Imtiaz Ali says, “She is actually a Brazilian girl named Giselle Monteiro. Why a Brazilian girl to play an old-fashioned Punjabi girl? Well, I was auditioning girls from all over the country to play the Punjabi girl opposite the Sikh Saif. I couldn’t find the right girl to play the 1965 ki ‘gali mein rehne wali ladki, purane zamane ki’.”

“Giselle came to me through dress designer Anaita Shroff. She was to play Jo, Saif’s Caucasian girlfriend in the second half. She wasn’t right for Jo.I turned and looked at Giselle and realised she is Brazil’s Harleen.”

Giselle had no idea about Bollywood dancing either, Imtiaz Ali adds, “We wanted to put her through the paces with Saroj ji (choreographer Saroj Khan), but it never happened. Saroj ji didn’t have the time. For a foreigner to get the Indian ‘adaa’ right is very tough.”

She did it all and she did it well!

We are both madly in love - Saif and Deepika

Besides playing the lead in Love Aaj Kal, Saif Ali Khan and Deepika Padukone have something else in common. "We are both madly in love", Saif said, and Deepika complemented his remark with her sweet smile.

The two were at Delhi recently, to promote the movie. The media caught them during their exit from the auditorium, in a great lovey dovey mood, Munching pop-corn from the Love Aaj Kal PVR combo. This was the right time to ask them about their view on 'love'. Saif began, "Being in love bring you happiness. It gives a sense of security that there's someone to take care of you, to be more worried about you that you are." He adds, "Kareena is the smile I wear on my face. I am so happy these days." Deepika also has something to say: "Being in love, one thinks and feels with the other in mind. As one has grown up, life becomes clearer, and so are the relationships."

Are people ready for Love Aaj Kal?

There has bee quite a bit of noise regarding the some scenes in Imtiaz Ali’s Love Aaj Kal starring Saif Ali Khan and Deepika Padukone, playing the modern day lovers in every sense of the word.

Let’s see what the director has to say about these issues, whether valid or invalid.

“My argument is that audiences are really smart. They pretty much see the intention of the filmmaker and make up their mind to watch the film accordingly. We better start taking them seriously rather than attempt at fooling them by considering ourselves over smart,” said Imtiaz Ali.

To clarify his point further, Ali shared some experience from the making of 'Jab We Met': “Remember the sequence in the second half of the film when Kareena curses her ex-boyfriend on phone? She goes on to say 'Teri Maa Ki' and a lot more. Did the audience feel awkward? Not at all. In fact they laughed during the entire scene and not a single soul came and told me that he/she felt offended by the language,” said Ali.

Imtiaz also admits that 'Love Aaj Kal', has the younger crowd as prime target audience. “And that's more by accident rather than planned,” he explains. “The film caters to them mainly because it's this age group that goes and sees films in theatres. Due to this, even when I am conceptualising a film and then putting it on celluloid, I feel safe from my target audience perspective.”

Love Aaj Kal will be out on screens on July 31st, with some great music by Pritam and lyrics by Irshad Kamil.

Love Aaj Kal has so-called objectionable scenes

The upcoming Saif Ali Khan starrer 'Love Aaj Kal' claims to be a family entertainer but hold on…there’s more to it!

Imtiaz Ali openly admits the movie starring Saif Ali Khan and Deepika Padukone has bold kissing scenes, yet he assures everyone that this is going to be a complete family movie. Ali promises that 'Love Aaj Kal', which is Saif's debut as a producer, is a movie that would be accepted by an entire family.

Speaking to the media about the film, he said, “Kisses included,” (he winked) “Nobody will feel inhibited watching 'Love Aaj Kal'. No one will hesitate walking into the film with his family. All that is potentially objectionable in the film in the strictest of sense has been taken care of in the first promo. If you have warmed up on it, rest assured you will love 'Love Aaj Kal',” the filmmaker said.

Therefore he has included the so-called objectionable scenes in the promos, so that the audience is ready for it by the time they get to watch the film.

Imtiaz Ali had to face people who weren't too comfortable with the idea of showing Saif trying to hold Deepika's butt, then share an unabashed kiss with her in the car and also mouth Hinglish expletives on a date right in the promo itself.

'They thought that people may get an impression that the film was only about these things but I had my own viewpoint,' explains Ali. He also added, “See, it's the way you put it in the film and treat it. It's up to the filmmaker not to make his film some fodder for perversion or lechery.”
