Usually, in the presence of actors like Naseeruddin Shah, Shabana Azmi or Anupam Kher, it is the directors (especially relatively newer kids on the block) who get nervous. However, the tables turned during the shooting of SORRY BHAI when Director Onir made Shabana Azmi nervous.
’’It isn’t as scandalous as you make it sound’’, smiles Onir who is bringing SORRY BHAI after MY BROTHER NIKHIL and BAS EK PAL, ’’This was during the early shooting days of the film when we all were trying to get familiarized with each other. After I was happy with a shot, I just used to say OK and move on to the next shot. I didn’t use to call CUT or getting into this ’Oh, this was a nice shot’ kind of sentiments.’’
Most of the cast members were not used to this kind of shooting style and were left wondering whether Onir was indeed happy with the way a shot was canned. Especially so Shabana Azmi who was the senior most on the sets and wanted to make doubly sure that Onir was getting from his actors all that he wanted.
’’Though she didn’t say anything to me directly, some other crew members told me that she was left wondering why was I behaving in a particular way’’, recollects Onir, ’’This is when people who had worked with me earlier told her that I am like that only. Soon everyone started getting adjusted to the way I used to call the shots on the sets. Now when we all sit back and think about the days we spent shooting the film, we have a hearty laugh about this incident.’’
SORRY BHAI is ready for release now and is all set to arrive on 28th November. An Anticlock Films production with Onir and Sanjay Suri as the co-producers, the film stars Suri himself along with Shabana Azmi, Boman Irani, Sharman Joshi and Chitrangada Singh.
