Actress Minissha Lamba is keen on doing a period drama

Minissh

Bollywood actress Minissha Lamba, who has donned both glamorous and non-glamorous roles, said that she is keen on doing a period drama like `Jodhaa Akbar`.

"I do not have any particular genre that I would like to do. I just want to entertain people. But I want to do a period drama like Jodhaa Akbar. I loved the film and wished I was a part of it," the 25-year-old actress told reporters adding she is interested in history than anything else.

Minissha started her journey as an actor from the critically acclaimed film, `Yahaan`, alongside Jimmy Shergill in 2005. She was later seen in `Corporate`, `Bachna Ae Haseeno` and with her ultra-glamorous look in `Kidnap`.

"It has been a great journey. There were disappointments and happier times as well. These things are part and parcel of every industry...and of everyone`s life. I am grateful for where I am today. There is a lot more that I need to do," she said.

When asked how the industry reacts to new comers like her and who do not have a filmi background, the actress said, "I did not face any problem. I think the industry is warm and encourages new comers."

"If you have a filmi background people know you better...your network is good. But the industry recognises talent and appreciate it, be it for a filmi or non-filmi actor," the actress said.

Minissha, who is currently shooting for `Hum Tum Aur Shabana` by Sagar Bellary of `Bheja Fry` fame, said 2010 is her year of comedy.

"My both the films of 2010 are a kind of comedy. `Well Done Abba` was a political satire and `Hum Tum Aur Shabana` is an out-and-out comedy," she added.

Minissha Lamba will be seen in Shyam Benegal`s new film

Actress Minissha Lamba admits her ultra-glamorous look in `Kidnap` opened a whole new range of opportunities for her. But the young actress, who will be seen in Shyam Benegal`s new film, feels that at the end of it talent plays an important role.

"My looks in `Kidnap` helped open a whole new and different range of opportunities for me. It is something I cherish. Being good looking is important, but not always. You need talent as well. If you have talent, people accept you regardless of the way you look," Lamba told reporters.

She also feels being short is not a disadvantage in the film industry.

"If you are a model, having height is imperative, but cinema is a medium where it doesn`t matter. You are on a platform where being tall or short loses relevance," she said.

After her glamorous avatar in `Kidnap`, Minissha will be seen in a non-glamorous role in Benegal`s forthcoming film, `Well Done Abba`.

"At first I was really scared to work with Mr. Benegal. But once we started shooting, he turned out to be a really calm, jovial and humorous person. We never saw him upset on the sets," she said.

`Well Done Abba`, a political satire, narrates the story of Armaan Ali (Boman Irani), a driver working in Mumbai. He takes a month`s leave to find a husband for his teenaged daughter, who lives in a small neighbourhood near Hyderabad. But he returns to his job after three months. His young employer wants to sack him, but is persuaded to listen to the reason why he got so delayed.

The film, produced by Reliance Big Pictures, is inspired by two short stories - `Narsaiyyan Ki Bavdi` by Jeelani Bano and `Phulwa Ka Pul` by Sanjeev.

Benegal had said in an interview that Minissha hasn`t got her due in Bollywood, but the 25-year-old says she has no regrets.

"That`s extremely generous of him to have said that, but it`s all right. I hope with this film my talent gets appreciated and I get more opportunities to show my potential," she said.

Minissha started her journey as an actor from the critically acclaimed film, `Yahaan`, alongside Jimmy Shergill in 2005. She was later seen in `Corporate`, `Shaurya`, and Yash Raj Films` `Bachna Ae Haseeno`.

"It has been a great journey. There were disappointments and heartbreak, but I am grateful for where I am today. There is a lot more I need to do and work even harder," she added.

Releasing March 26, it also stars Samir Dattani, Ila Arun, Ravi Kisshan, Sonali Kulkarni and Yashpal Sharma.

Minissha Lamba had to deal with Shreyas Talpade and Tusshar Kapoor

Minissh

She got wooed and… dumped earlier. But this time around, romantic matters are going to traverse through a new twist. A hilarious one, for a change! If Minissha Lamba had to deal with the callous Ranbir Kapoor and heartbreak for ’Bachna Ae Haseeno’, she’s in for a whale of a time with Shreyas Talpade and Tusshar Kapoor in ’Hum Tum Aur Shabana.’

Sagar Ballary who helmed ’Bheja Fry’, will showcase Minissha alongside her two love interests in ’Hum….,’ which is being currently canned in Goa. Although the plot of two Romeos chasing one Juliet sounds boringly trite, Ms. Lamba assures journos that the flick is "refreshingly different."

Enacting an "urbane girl", Minissha Lamba speaks about her flick in a media chat stating, "The movie is very fast paced and you will see yourself transported from one comic situation to another in no time. If you loved ’ Bheja Fry’ , trust me Sagar’s film will throw you off your seats!"Guard your funny bones, folks.

Actress Minissha Lamba to concentrate on the work in hand

Minissh

After her bikini stint in Sanjay Gadhvi’s ’Kidnap’, actress Minissha Lamba is back again. The actress who attempted to shed her girl next door image with ’Kidnap’, would definitely have been shattered with the film’s failure. But the actress had wisely decided to concentrate on the work that she had in hand.

Minissha had been roped in to play a role in Shyam Benegal’s ’Well Done Abba’. The film stars Boman Irani in the role of Abba and Minissha plays his daughter. The film is currently doing the rounds of film festivals and winning a lot of accolades for itself.

Like most actors who enter the film industry, Minissha too nursed a dream to work with Shyam Benegal and she was lucky to have her wish granted quite early in her career. Anyway, even though the film actually centres around Boman, Minissha has a prominent role in it.

Incidentally, her performance too has been noticed and singled out for praise. While, Minissha may have wanted to prove to herself that she can do glamour roles as well, it is true that she made a name for herself because of her girl next door sweet looks. One is sure the Benegal’s film will only reinforce that image.

The English department had the best teachers, there was professor Ila Singh and of course Sharmila Ma’am…”, recalls the ex-Miranda student.

She can, in that way, be labeled as a good student who always listened to her teachers.

“As much as I disliked the idea, at times I had to, for, I was doing a part time job alongside. Acting just happened. I actually aspired to be a journalist,” says the former model. She still likes to wield the pen whenever time allows. Minissha Lamba's 'Pied Pipers' morning raga

Minissha Lamba is one lady who loves her beauty sleep. So why is it that nowadays the lady is rising early and looks forward to her day?

A little birdie told us that the reason behind this early 'rise n shine' is none other than a mysterious neighbour who plays the flute every morning! The lilting notes of the flute are so melodious that Minissha loves waking up early just to spend a few moments standing by the window and listening to the sweet sounds wafting in!

Minissha's guessing that the neighbour must be a musician doing Riyaaz every morning... But Minissha sure seems caught under a melodious spell!

Well, this sounds like a scene straight out of a film! But Minissha can't help being pulled towards this 'Pied Pipers' morning raga!!!

Minissha adopts Boman as father

Minissha Lamba says that she enjoyed her experience with her on-screen Abba - Boman Irani whom she insists that she has adopted.

‘Abba Kaun?’ is a film directed by the reputed Shyam Benegal.
“Literally I adopted Boman as my father while we were off the sets. I would call him Abba all the time and he too would call me by the name of the character I play,” said the bubbly Minissha.
“The bond between the father and the daughter would be played out post pack up every evening, so much so that when something had to be done, I would take permission from Abba.” She continued.
It was one of the most unique relationships I’ve had with any co-star to date. The moment I wouldn’t find Boman around, I’d be looking for him. That’s how the rapport was.”
We hope the father-daughter bonding takes everyone’s breath away; good luck Minissha!

Bollywood stars what they think is the success formula

Zoya Akhtar’s soon to be released film Luck by Chance is set in Bollywood. It shows the struggles of an actor as he hopes to make it in the industry thereby giving rise to the age old question that what does it take to make it inBollywood? Is it hard work and talent or is it all about being lucky and being in the right place at the right time?

We ask Bollywoodstars what they think is the success formula to making it in this glamourous world of movies:

Prachi Desai

InBollywood I would say one need to have luck first and then hard work. You need to be lucky to get an opportunity and then hard work to make the most out it. Sometimes you do the hard work but if you are not lucky then you will fail to make it good.

Minissha Lamba

Both are equally important. One cannot exist without the other and to sustain yourself in Bollywood one needs to have both.

Chunky Pandey

Well no doubt it has to be hard work! I have been in the industry for such a long time and seen it very closely. Those who think luck comes just like that and dream out big to make it to Bollywood are wasting their time. If people will just sit at home and think their work should get done by luck or some one else should do it, I don’t think that’s possible in any way. Achievers are always hard workers.

Tara Sharma

I think its hard work… those who really give their best get the best and that way they can have a long career in Bollywood.

Shreyas Talpade

Hard work is the key to being successful in Bollywood and staying for longer time. No one can help you till you help yourself. And I always believe in hard work rather counting on luck.

Sonu Sood

I would say both of them travel parallel and have no existence without each other. But somewhere there is a line between the two where hard work dominates and makes you to stay for long in the Bollywood.

Gulshan Grover

It has to be the combination of both else they will not be functional in Bollywood. You might be lucky to get the break, but to sustain it one needs to put in a lot of hard work.

Check it out for your self in these exclusive pics of Minissha’s ‘Kidnap’

minissha lamba in bikini

If Minissha’s director Sanjay Gadhvi is to be believed, the gal is set to make her admirers drool over after watching her in ‘Kidnap’ all thanks to her gorgeous makeover owing to her newly found chiselled features and fab abs! The movie has Minissha play a sassy, chic today’s girl in the film and for the look she has worked hard to loose the excess weight. She has survived on low carb bland food for six months to get that perfect shape.

Though Minissha has previously done some steamy scenes with Arshad Warsi in Anthony Kaun Hai , the actress slips into a two-piece bikini for the first time in Sanjay Gadhvi’s ‘Kidnap’. Gandhvi has always managed to get his leading ladies shed their clothes in his films, be it Esha Deol , Bipasha Basu and even the usually prim-and-propah Aishwarya Rai shed their clothes in films like ‘Dhoom’ and ‘Dhoom 2’.

Gadhvi reportedly told Minissha at the very start of the film that she would have to don a bikini - and that too a white one - for a few sequences in the film. Minissha’s stylist, Shilpa Bhatia, scoured the market and managed to find a sexy bikini for the actress. The bikini along with Minissha’s perfect shape worked wonders in the beaches of Mauritius. Check it out for your self in these exclusive pics….

Says Minissha, ''It was a unique experience to be doing something like 'Mausam'

340x

Minissha is indeed serious about getting into an image makeover. After her naughty ’Hey Yaa’ act which made people sit up and take notice of her ’bindaas’ act, Minissha is turning seriously sensual with the track ’Mausam’ that has just been unveiled. A number where Minissha attempts at seducing Imran while being all drenched in water, ’Mausam’ brings to fore yet another facet of Minissha which was hitherto unexplored.

For those who have been studying Imran’s portrayal in KIDNAP from the promos unveiled so far, ’Mausam’ turns out to be a unique experience. From the tense mood that Imran has been seen in all the promos till date, the young man suddenly seems a lot more vulnerable in spite of attempting to be in control of affairs.

Says Minissha, ’’It was a unique experience to be doing something like ’Mausam’ since I haven’t played such a character before who was required to be drenched in water for camera. However, Sanjay (Gadhvi) was clear from Day one that my playful character had to behave like a teenager who is out to explore life on her own in the outside world. She does things her way and isn’t shy of flaunting her assets. She is a little naughty, a lot feminine and generally someone who loves life.’’

With a blockbuster (JAANE TU YA JAANE NAA) behind him, Imraan Khan is already the star of the show while Sanjay Dutt too is seen in a pivotal role after SHOOT OUT AT LOKHANDWALA. As for Minissha, she comes from the back to back success of SHAURYA and BACHNA SE HASEENO whereas Shree Ashtavinayak Cinevision Ltd. has seldom set its foot wrong when it comes to their selection of movies.

Releasing on 2nd October in India (with some countries bringing it a day earlier), no wonder KIDNAP is igniting heat ever since it’s first teaser came on air.

Minissha at the very start of the film that she would have to don a bikini

340x

Titillation is not something one would expect from Minissha Lamba. But the actress is going to provide you exactly that in the action thriller Kidnap .

Though Minissha has previously done some steamy scenes with Arshad Warsi in Anthony Kaun Hai , the actress slips into a two-piece bikini for the first time in Sanjay Gadhvi’s ‘Kidnap’ that stars Sanjay Dutt and Imran Khan in lead roles.

Sanjay Gadhvi , known for making actresses like Esha Deol , Bipasha Basu and even the usually prim-and-propah Aishwarya Rai shed their clothes in films like Dhoom and Dhoom 2 , has now made Minissha do the same.

Gadhvi reportedly told Minissha at the very start of the film that she would have to don a bikini - and that too a white one - for a few sequences in the film.

Minissha, surprisingly, was game for it. Funnily, what proved more difficult than convincing Minissha was to find a good white bikini. But her stylist in the film, Shilpa Bhatia, scoured the market and managed to find a sexy bikini for the actress.

And now that Minissha was finally showing off her skin, she wanted to look her best. The actress slogged away in gym and followed a strict diet to be in good shape.

Minissha’s bikini sequence was shot on the beaches of Mauritius.

Well now we have an extra reason to watch ‘Kidnap’.

Mini

Three years in the industry, the innocence remains, but with a newfound maturity. This gets evident the moment you begin a conversation with Minissha Lamba.

She might still be searching for that one elusive solo hit, which will put her in the ’A’ league of actresses, but the Punjabi kudi’s big dreams and confidence make her a strong contender to achieve that objective. Though she is working with big banners and some of the most happening male stars, the actress says that it can still get better for her.

Different genres
After romancing Ranbir Kapoor on screen in Bachna Ae Haseeno, Minissha will now be playing the lead role opposite Imran Khan in an upcoming movie. Talking about her role in the film, she says, "I play a character called Sonia, who gets kidnapped a week before her 18th birthday. Like in Bachna... I play the role of a 17-year-old girl here too. But, my role is a slightly serious one."
