Almost two decades after she left Nepal to carve out an illustrious career in neighbour India’s film industry, Bollywood diva Manisha Koirala is now seeking to bring Bollywood to Nepal.
Manisha, who will be returning to the Nepali film industry with the winter release of her new film, "Dharma", is now working on a new script that will have three Bollywood stars acting in it - Danny Denzongpa, her close friend Jackie Shroff and the favourite bad man of Bollywood, Gulshan Grover, the Nagarik daily reported Sunday.
The 40-year-old actor is said to be working on a script that is based in Nepal. Shooting with the Bollywood stars is expected to start from next month in Kathmandu and sunny city Pokhara, where Manisha herself did a couple of sequences for Dharma.
Meant for an international audience, the yet-to-be-titled film will have English subtitles and is also intended for international film festivals.
Bollywood made an earlier arrival in Nepal this year when Manisha tied the knot with Nepali entrepreneur Samrat Dahal.
Jackie, who wowed guests and the media alike by wearing a traditional Nepali suit, Grover, Govinda and Deepti Naval were among the Bollywood stars invited to the three-day wedding in June that was also attended by Nepal’s deposed king Gyanendra Shah and Maoist supremo Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda.
It was Grover’s first visit to Nepal and he was struck by the beauty of the Himalayan nation, expressing a desire to invest in a film made here, Manisha said.
Jackie had also told her in the past that he wanted to act in a Nepali film but till now, she had not been able to do anything about it, the petite actor said.
This year, besides Manisha, Nepal has welcomed two more acclaimed Bollywood stars.

Nandita Das, chair of Children’s Film Society of India, came down to Kathmandu to attend an Indian film festival while Irfan Khan, who has begun his conquest of Hollywood with his roles in "Slumdog Millionaire" and "A Mighty Heart", came to take part in an international theatre festival.

manisa

Manisha Koirala may have disappeared from the silver screen but this Nepali beauty is having a great time with her husband, Nepalese businessman Samrat Dahal in Sievi, Finland where the couple is spending their honeymoon. Manisha had always wanted to go to Europe for her honeymoon and had been quoted saying, “I’ve planned a dream honeymoon for us. I’ve been to the European destinations before as a single woman. This time it’s different.”

Talking about the after marriage feelings, a nostalgic Manisha told, “I feel different now that I’m married. It’s as though I’ve found my bearings in life. There’s a new sense of belonging, as though there’s someone constantly there to support me, to hold me when I fall. I’ve never felt this way before.”

Manisha also expressed her desire to stay in touch with Mumbai even after her marriage but she added that she will do only selected movies and would not be interested in decorative roles.

Manisha-Koirala-gets-married-2

Bollywood actress Manisha Koirala finally married to a Nepali businessman Samrat Dahal in a traditional Nepali style in Katmandu. It was a three day ceremony held at the Gokarna Forest Resort, 10kms east of the capital.
Manisha’s wedding was totally a family affair with only few Bollywood friends. Dressed in yellow saree with red embroided border, Manisha exchanged garland and wedding rings with Samrat.

Traditional Nepali music Panchai Bazaa was played and a cultural dance was held. Nepali, Indian and continental dishes were served at the resort. The three days long ritual will be ended tomorrow when the bride will go the groom’s house after performing hour-long rituals as per the Hindu tradition.

Debuted with Subhash Ghai’s Saudagar, she starred in few successful films like Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s 1942: A Love Story, Mani Ratnam’s Bombay, Dil Se and Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Khamoshi. Marriage will not put a full stop to her filmy career, she will continue acting and most likely in Nepali films.

The actress had few unsuccessful relationships in the past but finally her heart mingled with Samrat Dahal.

We wish the couple a happy married life ahead.

Manisha Koirala was angry because her boyfriend was eyeing Laila

Mani

They were like two peas in a pod for the longest time. Manisha Koirala and Laila Khan (Fardeen Khan’s sister) have bonded since the days of Feroz Khan’s home-production Yalgaar, way back in 1992.

Manisha had confessed to close friends that she was extremely fond of Laila; and both these Leo women, they are born one day apart - Laila on August 15 and Manisha on August 16 - nurtured a close friendship for 15 years.

But this year, common friends of the two-including a designer and an actress were shocked when Fardeen Khan didn’t invite Manisha to his sister’s birthday party at Bling on August 15.

A source present at the party said, “There were just 15 of us. Fardeen and his wife Natasha were fabulous hosts. And, no we didn’t spot Manisha at the party which is surprising because she is usually there at all Laila’s parties.”’

The same source attended Manisha’s birthday bash at her residence the next evening and found Laila missing this time.

Putting two and two together, the source added, “I guess the Laila-Manisha friendship has gone kaput.” For close friends of the two girls, it is now a hard choice. They have to sometimes choose one over the other.

“What is really sad,” said one of their common friends, “is the fact that these women had an altercation over a man, Akshay. And that man is with neither of them today."

Some months ago, there was a news report on how Manisha and Laila had a pow-wow at a suburban hotel bathroom over one of Manisha’s boyfriends. It was insinuated that Manisha was angry because her boyfriend was eyeing Laila.

A close friend who is common to both the women says, “Actually neither Manisha nor Laila is actually at fault. Manisha was seeing a guy called Akshay. Buzz is that Akshay was a student in Australia and he met Manisha when she was a chief guest at some function there. And at a party in her home last year, Akshay was chatting up Laila more than necessary. So Manisha got upset.”

The fact of the matter is that Laila wasn’t one bit interested in Akshay. But somehow this incident drove a wedge between the two friends. And, a friendship of 15 years has gone phut.

When contacted, Manisha sent us a text message which read, “ I didn’t attend Laila’s party but we have not had a fall-out.”
