Dusky actress Chitrangada Singh says her golfer husband Jyoti Randhawa has no problems with her profession and rubbishes reports that there is trouble in their marriage owing to her career choice. Chitrangada, who is back with a film after a hiatus of three years, has put all speculation about her absence from the industry on the backburner. ’Jyoti is very encouraging. I’m very lucky to have a person who himself is very ambitious and he understands my ambition too. He understands that you want to do something with whatever god has blessed you with; if you have a talent you should utilise it. He is all for that,’ the 34-year-old actress told in an interview. She agreed that sometimes it becomes difficult to manage things, considering she also has a three-year-old son. But she is determined to make things work.
’Like any working woman, who has a family at home and a profession, I too have to manage things. Yes, it’s a little challenging at times, but I’m managing because I love acting and being in this industry so much, I want to make this work,’ she said. She was last seen on the big screen in the 2008 film ’Sorry Bhai!’. Chitrangada is now ready to do more work and strengthen her position in the industry. She will be seen in Sudhir Mishra’s ’Yeh Saali Zindagi’ slated to hit screens Feb 4. ’Now audiences wouldn’t have to wait for me for long because I am going to do films one after the other. There will be a lot more work now because I am dying to do more work,’ said Chitrangada, who has an uncanny resemblance to yesteryear actress Smita Patil.
Throwing some light on her character in the new film, the actress, who has earlier featured in films like ’Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi’ and ’Kal: Yesterday and Tomorrow’, said: ’I play a girl who is a struggling musician, does gigs in a couple of clubs trying to get somewhere because she is ambitious.’ ’She is a very today’s girl, madly and blindly in love with a guy. She can’t look beyond him and is ready to go to any length to be with him and trusts him completely. What happens to her in the film is that she ends up being foolishly in love and the fact is that the guy is not in love with her,’ she added. For the role, the actress took cues from videos of international artists like Tina Turner.
’I did see a couple of videos of international singers performing to learn their body language on the stage and see how they perform. I also saw videos where they just sit down and sing,’ she revealed. The film also stars Irrfan Khan and newcomer Vipul Gupta. When asked about her experience of working with Irrfan, Chitrangada promptly said: ’I was nervous.’ ’I was very nervous and anxious working with Irrfan. His working style is amazing. He is such a subtle actor and he keeps working on his character all the time. He comes up with improvisations and pays attention to a lot of detail, questions, but all very quietly. He is also very spontaneous and totally a class apart,’ she told
One facet prominent in Chitrangada’s career graph till now has been her association with not-so-straight roles. The actress says simple roles don’t excite her. ’I like doing coiled roles.
It’s fun because it is very interesting for me. Simple roles are not my cup of tea and I like it that way. It’s far more interesting for an actress to play a character who has couple of aspects to her personality. Where she is nice but also a little selfish and jealous and also other things,’ said the actress. ’I think the situation is such now that if offered a simple role, I might find that challenging to do,’ she added. After ’Yeh Saali Zindagi’, Chitrangada will feature in Rohit Dhawan’s ’Desi Boyz’.
