There’s a new craze in Bollywood and that’s stars penning their biographies. The latest buzz suggests that it’s not just Aishwarya Rai Bachchan who is toying with the idea of putting her life into words but also Rajnikanth and Shilpa Shetty and here’s what you expect from these books.

What you will get: The rise of the man from nowhere to becoming one of the most powerful men in the Indian film industry, his marriage and never ending fan following all over the world.

What you won’t get: His not so cordial relationship with quite a few actors down South and alleged alliances with numerous actresses.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan

Tashan the most awaited films of 2008

Yash Raj’s Tashan starring Akshay Kumar, Anil Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor.is one of the most awaited films of 2008.

It marks Akshay’s return to the Yash Raj banner after 12 years and Anil’s after 15 years. Anil is playing a bad man in the film while Kareena, who will be seen sporting a bikini for the first time, is said to be a playing a role inspired by Uma Thurman’s character in Kill Bill. She has also done some stunts for the film.

Saif’s son Ebrahim will also feature in the film.

Tashan is also largely awaited because it was on the sets of Tashan that it is believed that Kareena and Saif started their new relationship.

It has been shot at different locales including Haridwar, Greece, Ladakh and Rajasthan.

Now katrina Kaif and Saif Ali Khan In Sexy Lady

Race, one of the hottest films this season, is around three weeks away from its release. Still, it’s producers TIPS and composer Pritam are leaving no stones unturned to ensure that the film not just stays in news but also take one of the biggest ever openings at the Box Office.

To keep the film hot in circulation and add on to the immense hype that this action/thriller has been generating, the makers have decided to add on a new song in Race. The song is special since it features Saif Ali Khan and now hot-n-happening Katrina Kaif who was the only leading lady to have enjoyed a cent percent record last year (Namastey London, Apne, Partner and Welcome). Moreover, the title of the song is nothing less than inviting as it reads - ‘Sexy Lady’.

As per the film’s producer Ramesh Taurani (of TIPS), the song was added as it was found to be a good replacement for ‘Mujhpe To Jaado’ which was yet to be shot. “We are thrilled with the great response to the title song ‘Race Sanson Ki’, ‘Pehli Nazar Mein’ and ‘Zara Zara Touch Me’. We wanted to keep the momentum going. When Pritam made us hear the tune of ‘Sexy Lady’, we knew that this was the song for the film,” confirms Ramesh Taurani.

Adds Pritam, “‘Mujhpe To Jadoo’ was anyways waiting to be picturized. Since Abbas-Mustan also felt that ‘Sexy Lady’ could be a good replacement, everyone was in consensus with the decision.

Says a confident Taurani, “We are quite happy with the way Race is leading up to it’s March 21 release. The songs are doing quite well and are leading the charts all over. We would begin unleashing the talkie promos early March. They would be a mix of action and drama which forms the USP of the film.”

Meanwhile shooting of ‘Sexy Lady’ is currently on and would be wrapped up in quick time so that the song is on air before the release of the film. Moreover, there won’t be much wait for the new edition of the music album of Race to arrive too. By first week of March, latest addition ‘Sexy Lady’ is expected to be a part of the newer lots of Race that would be out on stands.

Hrithik Roshan is new brand ambassador of Coca Cola

New Delhi, (IANS) Keen to build a stronger connect with the young generation, global soft drinks major Coca-Cola India here Thursday announced the launch of its new campaign that will feature Bollywood actor and style icon Hrithik Roshan.

Based on the theme ‘Jashan Mana Le’, the campaign has been designed to showcase the “magical power” of aerated drink Coca-Cola.

The new commercial is set at a quaint street where a group of youngsters land up late one night to grab a bite, only to find all the shops shut. What follows is a tryst with Hrithik and a magical ride, which leaves them in awe.

Set in the context of friends enjoying their food, the cold drink brings life to the moment and transforms it into an impromptu celebration.

“It feels great to be part of the ‘Jashan Mana Le’ campaign. It reminds me of the time when I was in college, hanging out with friends, going out and having food together,” said Hrithik in a press statement.

“The emotions captured in the campaign of togetherness and celebrations, being energized by a bottle of Coca-Cola are very real and identifiable. I am sure all including my fans, would find this campaign extremely appealing,” he added.

Venkatesh Kini, vice-president (marketing), Coca-Cola India, said: “Having made ‘thanda’ and refreshment synonymous with Coca-Cola, this year we have decided to take the brand communication to the next level. Our 2008 campaign focuses on how a bottle of Coca-Cola infuses a stream of fun, enjoyment and exhilaration into every moment of life.

“The idea of the new campaign is tell the audience how the magical power of the beverage brings celebration into the lives of its consumers. I am confident that the youth today will strongly identify with both the lingo and message of this campaign.”

It has been tentatively decided that the next campaign of the cold drink will feature its brand ambassador Aamir Khan.

New trend in Bollywood! Stars lined up to become filmmakers

new trend is now seen on the screen of the Bollywood cinema where all the prominent actors that entered into the arena of Bollywood movies during late eighties and become stars of present time trying their luck in production process of their movies.
The top names who entered into the Mumbai that period like Amir Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Suneil Shetty, Ajay Devgan and the recent ones Sanjay Dutt and Saif Ali Khan are about to launch their own production companies. On the issue the renowned director Vishal Bhardwaj expressed his opinion, “ Fees in Bollywood are slowly inching towards Hollywood levels - if a Shah Rukh Khan does a film he will take at least US$6 to US$7 million - in comparison, Johny Depp will charge US$20 million,” Bhardwaj said. “Every actor has his own production house and if you have to cast them, you have to co-produce or work for those production houses.”

Why SRK turned down Sushmita Sen’s request?

If Shahrukh Khan does not forget those who do him a favour, it goes the same for those who refuse to do him a favour. We all know how attached SRK was to Farah Khan’s project ‘Om Shanti Om’. The famous ‘Deewangi’ song of the film which had galaxy of stars was possible because no one could (read dare) refuse SRK’s request to appear in the song. Well, if you remember, it was Sushmita Sen who was conspicuous by her absence in the song. Although Sush was SRK’s heroine in his last film ‘Main Hoon Na’ also directed by Farah Khan, she excused herself on pretext of being busy. She is now paying the price for refusing the offer it seems.

Recently, she approached Shah Rukh Khan to do a cameo in her ambitious home production ‘Rani Laxmibai’ but she was turned down by him on the grounds of lack of time. According to rumor mill King Khan has not forgotten that she didn’t appear in the title song of his film and hence turned down her call.

Riya Sen in for a makeover

Bollywood’s sex kitten Riya Sen is looking for a change of image. The gal will soon be seen playing a village belle in ‘Zor Laga Ke Hayya’ wearing a nine yard saree in the film.

Riya said that she had no qualms about playing a de-glamorised role and had in fact agreed instantly on hearing the script, “I always wanted to play a village belle.” Producer Kartikeya Talreja however said, “Riya was a bit reluctant but when we explained to her how it will be a good change for her, she agreed to do the film.”

‘Zor Laga Ke Haiyya’ deals with issues like redevelopment and environment. Riya plays a construction worker and Mahesh Manjrekar plays a contractor who has the hots for Riya. Mithun Chakraborty is also in the film.

Akshay Kumar goes underwater tied up in chains

Akshay Kumar had entered Bollywood as an action star. With an advent of time he proved his genius in romance and comedies too. Akshay is at present shooting for Nagesh Kukunoor’s psychological thriller ‘Eight By Ten’ where he plays a man with extraordinary psychic powers.

Last week at a pool in Chembur Akshay shot the climax sequence of the film where tied up in chains, he went underwater. Akshay was all tied up with chains when he went underwater without any breathing apparatus. It was an extremely tough scene for which Akshay took special training in Bangkok.

During the training Akki learned how to swim underwater without oxygen. A part of the training involves taking deep breaths for a minute before taking the plunge into water. Akshay says it is a very difficult stunt that can affect one’s health if not done properly.

About a hundred years ago, the Hungarian-American conjurer and escapologist Houdini puzzled everyone with his remarkable feats. Houdini could extricate himself from ropes, chains and padlocks while in a sealed coffin, suspended in the air or dunked in a sea.

Percept Picture Company’s head honcho, Shailendra Singh, says ‘Eight By Ten’ is the first movie of its kind for Hindi film industry.

53rd Annual Fair One Filmfare Awards

The 53rd Annual Fair One Filmfare Awards was completed amidst much glamour and glitter. Aamir Khan’s ‘Taare Zameen Par’ won the Best Film Award and the debutante director was also honored the Best Director. While ‘Chak De! India ‘ took home 5 awards including the Best Actor (Shah Rukh Khan) and Best Film Awards in the Critics Category. Mani Ratnam’s ‘Guru’ also picked up 5 awards with Best Music and Best Background Music going to A. R. Rahman for his melodious compositions. Saroj Khan picked up the Best Choreographer Award, Shreya Ghosal for Best Female Singer and Samir Chanda for Best Art Directions.

Kareena Kapoor was no surprise when she walked away with the Best Actress Award for her outstanding performance in ‘Jab We Met’. Irrfan Khan won the Best Supporting Actor and Konkona Sen Sharma for Best Supporting Actress for their performances in ‘Life in A Metro’. Imtiaz Ali was awarded with the Best Dialogue Award for his film ‘Jab We Met’ while Anurag Basu for the Best Screenplay Award for his film ‘Life In A Metro’.

As expected, Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone walked away with the Debutant Award for the Best Actor and Actresses. Tabu was honoured with the Critics Award for the Best Actress for her performance in ‘Cheeni Kum’ opposite Amitabh Bachchan.

Will Amitabh and Rekha act together again?

This is a real surprising news. The couple which created sensation with their on-screen and off-screen chemistry chose not to act together owing to the controversies regarding their affair. Now, the news doing rounds is that the yesteryear hit jodi of Amitabh Bachchan and Rekha are making a comeback in a film titled ‘ALADDIN’, to be directed by Jhankar Beats fame director Sujoy Ghosh. The actors jodi will appear together onscreen after almost a gap of more than two decades (around 26 years). But sadly the news will settle only as headlines and will not turn out to be a reality as the director, Sujoy, denied about they being together in ALADDIN, when we contacted. Further he also confirmed that it’s only Big B who is signed for the film, playing the character of ‘Gini’ and not Rekha. Well all those brokenhearted fans can at least enjoy the news, if not the movie.

MAMI will screen 140 films from 45 countries in three theatres

MAMI (Mumbai Academy of the Moving Image), the most awaited film festival is back and how! The weeklong festival is in its tenth edition and getting started from March 6 and is being presented by Reliance Big Entertainment. This time, MAMI will screen 140 films from 45 countries in three theatres in the city - Adlabs Wadala (4 screens), Metro Adlabs (2 screens) and Cinemax Versova (1 screen).

This year, the newly instituted ‘Global Lifetime Achievement Award’ will be awarded to Carlos Saura, the internationally renowned Spanish director for his contribution to the world of cinema. MAMI is introducing a new initiative called ‘Dimensions Mumbai’, a short film competition, for youth below 25 from Mumbai on the theme “Metropolis of Mumbai”. Under this programme, digital films of 5 minutes durations depicting various aspects of life in Mumbai are being invited. The best entry would be awarded a cash prize of Rs. 1, 50,000. The last date of submission of entries is March 1st 2008. This competition was initiated by Jaya Bachchan, one of the trustees of MAMI.

The Awards function will be held on March 13 on the closing night of the festival. Living legend Dev Anand will preside over the closing ceremony as the chief guest and will present the MAMI Awards. The best Indian films selected by a special five member’s international jury will also be announced on the closing night. A three-member’s FIPRESCI (International Federation of Film Critics) Jury will also announce its results on the Closing Night. Highlights of the festival include the screening of Polish master Andrzej Wajda’s latest film Katyn, nominated for an Oscar in the foreign film category. Besides that, in the closing gala night the Japanese film The Mourning Forest will be screened, a film that won the Grand Prix at the 60th edition of Cannes Film Festival in 2007.

The USP of this festival is the MAMI Awards for outstanding contribution to the Indian film industry which will be presented to subsequent:

She did so to complete a major portion of the film before flying off for Tarun Mansukhani film ‘Dostana’ in Miami.

“We started the shot at 5 am and it went on till the next morning, everyone was exhausted but Priyanka was extremely professional, she didn’t complain or throw tantrums even once,” says a unit member.

Madhur too confirms the news and says, “Yes, Priyanka was very professional. When she saw that I was not well and in-spite of that I was on the sets, 24/ 7, she just gave in,” he laughs. Let’s hope the Guinness world record guys are reading this!

Neha Dhupia in a press conference on Thursday attended at Joss Pub in Kala Ghoda, Mumbai, announced her participation in the first reality movie on Indian television to be telecasted at Channel [V]. The movie ‘Andaz Apna Very Hatke’ is the channel’s effort to attract viewers toward its TRP rating, the 20-minute movie is to be scripted, directed and produced by the channel.

The music of the Bollywood film One Two Three was released at a Mumbai hotel on Wednesday. The celebrities from the tinsel town present on the occasion were the star cast of Suniel Shetty, Tusshar Kapoor, Upen Patel, Sameera Reddy and Tanisha Mukherjee to name a few. Producer duo Kumar Mangat and Sunil Lulla were also present.

Directed by the debutant director Ashwani Dheer, the film is a non-stop comedy of errors. Raghav Sachar who has done the music for the film left the audiences spell bound with his performance during the release function.

Speaking at the music launch, Shetty said that he was happy with his work. “I play one of the Laxmi Narayan (Character’s name) it’s a good script and I’m very happy with the work I have done. I play a very sincere and honest gentleman from the corporate world but sincere and honest to the extent of being extremely irritating,” said Shetty.

Sultry actress Sameera Reddy was also ecstatic about her role in the film. “My character in the film ‘One Two Three’ is Laila. She is a vintage car dealer and in the whole film she is trying to sell Pareshji (Paresh Rawal, another actor in the film) a vintage car and Pareshji is trying to sell her undergarments and this is definitely very strong point of the film and it makes a great comedy,” said Reddy.

First ever Pakistani film Khuda Ke Liye to be released in India

Indian theatres are all set to give a wholehearted welcome to the Pakistani film, Khuda Ke Liye on March 28, which also happens to be the first ever Pakistani film to be released in India. The film produced and directed by Shoaib Mansoor has Pakistani stars Shaan and Imaan Ali in the lead roles. The film also stars Naseerudin Shah in a very pivotal role.

The film showcases the complex conditions of Pakistanis post 9/11. It highlights the cruel fact of West immensely suspicious about Muslims where they themselves are split between fundamentalists and Liberals.

Naseerudin Shah playing a role of clergy claims that the film is a must watch for the masses and has been appreciated after being shown in Pakistan, London and Dubai. The film also had its screening in Goa film festival.

Buzz is strong about Karan Johar not being happy with the price Yash Raj is offering him for distribution rights of his next, directed by protégé Tarun Mansukhani and that he and old pal, Aditya Chopra had a tiff over it. Their common pal, Shah Rukh Khan is playing mediator in all this claim industry sources.

“Every Dharma Productions film by Karan Johar has been distributed by Yash Raj worldwide. Though the rights price increased with every released film as they all went on to become super hits, it was still considerably low as compared to new players in the market - the corporate companies such as UTV or Eros or even big distributors like Ashtavinayak were willing to offer.But due to his equation with Adi, Karan never thought twice about it, but now he is in two minds with a joint offer by Eros for the Abhishek Bachchan - Priyanka Chopra - John Abraham starrer directed by Tarun Mansukhani and for KJo’s SRK - Kajol starrer My Name Is Khan. It is reportedly around Rs 175 crore (75 crore for the yet untitled Mansukhani film and 100 crore for MNIK). Eros had approached KJo through SRK,” an industry source reveals.

“SRK’s home production, Om Shanti Om was sold for close to Rs. 70 crore to Eros. SRK, during his trip to the UK for the Zee Carnival, met with the Eros big wigs wherein they put forth the proposal to him to put it up for KJo. SRK is learnt to have spoken to Karan regarding it and clearly telling him to put friendship on one side and business on the other. The kind of money offered is almost more than double than what KJo would expect from Yash Raj for both his films. At the same time, SRK it seems is also speaking to Aditya over it on Karan’s behalf making him understand Karan’s predicament. He is ensuring either Adi increase his offer price to what the current market price for biggies of such proportions is or let Karan have his way. The ball is presently in Adi’s court now,” adds the source.

“SRK has always in the last few years never approached the Chopras for the distribution rights because he has always been a thorough professional who has never mixed business with friendship. It is high time he expects Karan too follows suit. Next in the pipeline might be Rakesh Roshan, who too is being offered unheard of sums for his Krrish 2. He has been distributing his last few films like Koi Mil Gaya and Krrish through Yash Raj for a lesser price as compared to the market rate,” the source concludes.

But one thing is sure industry insiders say. “Whether this deal happens between them or not, Adi and Karan are not going to go their separate ways.”

Set amidst horse racing and betting in South Africa, the promos of Race which are currently on air have drawn huge response for the fashionable yet edgy look of the film. We spoke to Anahita Shroff Adajania, who was given the job of giving each of the six stars a look of their own but yet look a part of the entire ensemble.

The entire film has a very rich look to it. The money and style shows but its all very understated. As a stylist my job was to make each of them look like they knew exactly what was in fashion and on the ramps but still give them each their own distinct identity. And so we shopped and picked up things from everywhere. The entire world was my shopping complex!

Saif is extremely open to suggestions. The main aim was that his clothes were bespoke. He plays an extremely successful businessman who doesn’t go shopping for himself because he simply doesn’t have the time. He probably has a tailor sitting in London at the Saville Row whom he calls and says I want six more suits and they swiftly arrive. He is your dream businessman. We didn’t want to go typical either so if you see the colours that he wears are very avant garde. The ties that he wears in the film are extremely expensive - brands like Etro, Gucci, Ferregamo. And his glasses are Alexander McQueen and are very Saif in real life too but he wasn’t allowed to wear them anywhere else till the film releases!

Bipasha plays a model in the film so she dresses fashionably but there is a street edge to it because that’s the way models dress. Models might wear their favourite top and then mix it up with a pair of designer jeans that they bought on a high street in New York. Like Bipasha might wear a Cartier watch but she also wears chappals on that we which got from Colaba causeway for 50 rupees! We also styled her hair to be very long because I find that there is a certain edge to it. She has a very strong character in the film… like she isn’t what we call feminine at all!

Katrina plays Saif’s assistant/personal secretary in the film. She is again very strong but also very feminine. So she wears fitted silk shirts with slim slit skirts which are high waisted. She works for a highly successful businessman and travels with him so she knows that is happening fashion wise in the world.

Sameera plays a mole in the film who works with Anil Kapoor who is an inspector. She is what I would call the modern day ditz… you know someone who matches every thing. She thinks that her shoes should match her hand bag.

Mumbai, (IANS) After “Guru”, Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai will team up again for Mani Ratnam’s next venture. Based on real life characters, the movie will be an intense love story.

This will be Abhishek and Ratnam’s third film together. After the terrific partnership they shared during “Yuva”, which Abhishek describes as his career’s first turning point, and “Guru”, which he acknowledges as his second turning point, it doesn’t require much calculation to see the creative and commercial viability of the Abhishek-Ratnam pair.

Ratnam will start shooting for the film in Sep with Abhishek and Aishwarya.

According to a source close to the project, “It’s going to be a very intense love story. ‘Guru’ was more of a biopic with a cavalcade of characters claiming screen space, but this film will focus primarily on the romance. It’s a very intense film and Mani’s most romantic film to date. It is based on real life characters.”

Meraj-ur-Rehman’s the first husband of Manyata Dutt

Mumbai, (IANS) A Mumbai court Wednesday afternoon directed the Mumbai police to submit by Feb 25 its report on inquiry into Meraj-ur-Rehman’s claim that he is the first husband of Manyata, now wife of Bollywood star Sanjay Dutt.

Meraj, who is in police custody for sending obscene messages to Bollywood actresses, has in a written complaint to the Bandra metropolitan magistrate contended that Manyata’s marriage to Sanjay Dutt Feb 11 was illegal, as he has not divorced her yet.

According to Meraj, he married Manyata in 2003 and has a son from her. The son is now in Dubai with Manyata’s relatives.

Meraj, who has been a struggling writer in the film industry, told the police he only wanted custody of his son and was ready to legally divorce Manyata.

This is not the only complication that the newly married Dutt couple is facing. Sanjay and Manyata first had a registered marriage in Goa and then a Hindu ritual marriage in Mumbai.

However, the Goa district administration last week ordered re-examination of the marriage registration papers. For a registered marriage in Goa, at least one person must be a Goa resident for a minimum six months.

When Goa authorities learnt that the domicile certificate Manyata submitted was false, they served a show-cause notice on her last week and asked her why this certificate should not be cancelled.

Manyata has sought a fortnight’s time to file her reply to the notice.
