After her glamorous role in One Two Three, Tanishaa Mukherjee will now be seen playing Abhishek Bachchan’s wife in the Sarkar Raj sequel. The actress tells us more.
I play Avantika Nagre, a nice Maharasthrian girl, who gets married to Abhishek Bachchan in the film. How strong is your character compared to Abhishek Bachchan?

tanisha-mukherjeeI have a very strong and unique character as this role will see me go totally de-glam, - clad in traditional saris, bindis very much like a housewife. It is a role I have never done before so I am very excited.”

How many scenes do you have with Abhishek and Amitabh?

That you will have to watch the film and find out! All I can say is that there are many crucial scenes involving me and them.

What is the USP of Sarkar Raj according to you?

The USP is that it has the biggest casting coup of all time….bringing the Bachchan family and my family together…both which have great acting stalwarts in them….I come from a family which has names like Kishore Kumar, Nutan, Tanuja, Kajol….I hope with Sarkar Raj i can do some justice to them!!

It is being said that you wore your maternal grandmother Shobhna Samarth’s saree in the film.

I am concentrating on my career as of now.

Apart from Sarkar Raj what are your upcoming projects?

The grand premiere of Bollywood film ‘Woodstock Villa’,

The grand premiere of Bollywood film ‘Woodstock Villa’, which marks the debut of Sikander Kher, the son of versatile actor Anupam Kher, and Debutant actress Neha Oberoi was held in Mumbai on Thursday.

Sanjay Gupta, Shobha Kapoor and Sanjay Dutt have produced the film, which is a musical thriller.

National award-winning director Hansal Mehta has directed the film.

Hansal Mehta’s film stars Arbaaz Khan, Gulshan Grover and Shakti Kapoor besides many others.

Woodstock Villa is a film about swiftly changing moralities in today’s world and breaks new ground with every twist.

Music of the film has been rendered by Anu Malik and Shibani Kashyap while the lyrics have been penned by trio Virag Mishra, The Aryans and Manoj Muntashir.

Speaking to the media during the premier of the movie was debutant actor Sikander Kher who said, I would like to say that we have really worked very hard for this film and whole life I have worked towards becoming an actor. I would request all the people to please go and watch this movie. It’s very important for me.

The film has also introduced another debutant actress Neha Oberoi who was very excited about working with Sikander Kher.

I really enjoyed working with Sikander, he is a wonderful and a very professional actor. Moreover, he is very good at what he does and I think the best thing about working with Sikander is that both of us are newcomers and could relate to each other pretty well, said Neha.

Sikander’s father Anupam Kher said that he was proud of the fact that what Sikander has achieved was on his own ability.

We are happy as Sikander is making his debut and our good wishes are with him. We hope that he works harder and is successful, moreover people like his work, said Anupam.

Who’s who of Bollywood like Yash Chopra, Mahesh Bhatt, Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai and Anil Kapoor to name a few assembled at the premiere to encourage the debutant actors.

Bollywood heavy weight Abhishek Bachchan walked in with his wife and actress Aishwarya Rai to encourage Sikander Kher, whom he considered his younger brother.

I think he is fantastic. Sikander is like our younger brother and we are very excited for him and we wish him all the best, said Abhishek Bachchan.
Songs from the film are already out as a teaser but how far the debutant leading pair goes well with the audience needs to be seen.

A couple of years ago, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Rani Mukerji and Preity Zinta were the ruling troika of queen bees in Bollywood.

A couple of years ago, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Rani Mukerji and Preity Zinta were the ruling troika of queen bees in Bollywood.

Almost overnight, you have new favourites Kareena Kapoor and Katrina Kaif being labelled as the soon-to-be queens, thanks to their box-office successes in recent months.

Rani, who’s had a bad innings last year ( Ta Ra Rum Pum and Laaga Chunari Mein Daag ), was tinseltown’s blue-eyed girl until her films crashed at the box-office. Rumours of her marriage to Aditya Chopra didn’t go down well with the audience either.
Close rival Preity seems to have shifted gear to meaningful films and has become a franchisee owner of IPL, giving her no time for films. The Bachchan bahu has wrapped up for Sarkar Raj co-starring hubby Abhishek, walked the red carpet in Cannes Film Festival again and is exploring fresher avenues in Hollywood.

In such a scenario, it is inevitable that filmmakers would move on to newer stars who can offer bulk dates, commitment and box-office guarantee as well. Unlike male superstars, women stars never had that kind of sway over ticket windows anyway. While married male superstars are welcome, attached women superstars are almost outcasts even in 21st century Mumbai tinseltown. Why do top female superstars have such a limited shelf life? Says filmmaker Sanjay Gadhvi, “Globally, a film is sold mainly because of the male actor.

Except maybe a Julia Roberts, no female actor has been able to command a price at the box-office in Mumbai. So today, if we find Rani, Ash or Preity not doing many roles, it’s because they claim to have become selective. Katrina, Kareena or Bipasha are getting there, so they will be doing clichéd roles initially to establish a foothold in the industry.”

Some filmmakers feel the new crop of stars have enough talent too. Says Pritish Nandy, “There is an overflow of talent actually. There is Chitrangada Singh, Kangana Ranaut, Jiah Khan, Bipasha Basu, Kareena Kapoor, Katrina Kaif and so many more. But they all need good scripts.” Says trade analyst Komal Nahata, “Ash, Rani and Preity are not very hot now because they have passed their prime and are demanding huge sums of money. Producers are ready to bank on good male actors so obviously Ash, Rani and Preity will look for alternative careers or settle for marital bliss.”

Even as her Thoda Pyar Thodi Magic gets set for a theatrical release, Rani is preparing for Aditya Chopra’s next, Preity Zinta’s got Rituparno Ghosh’s The Last Lear, Jahnu Barua’s Har Pall, Deepa Mehta’s Canadian on Earth, Sameer Karnik’s Heroes, while Aishwarya’s Sarkar Raaj releases next week, after which she wraps up Pink Panther and Robot.

Preity Zinta however, is quick to point out, “There can’t be a hit movie without a (female) actor!” Rani confesses that the offers keep pouring in, but “nothing excites me. Now I am at a position that I can put my heart and soul into every role I do.”
Well, being choosy sometimes pays for the three divas, bringing them critical acclaim and commercial success. And when the formula doesn’t work, there are always younger stars to take over those slots.

Katrina is delighted with the way the song has shaped up, she is even more charmed by Egypt and its culture.“

Katrina Kaif

And while Katrina is delighted with the way the song has shaped up, she is even more charmed by Egypt and its culture.“It’s among the most beautiful countries I have visited - the pyramids, the temples and the landscape are absolutely exotic. I even enjoyed the barbecue dinner on a boat on the Nile. We shot in a number of places and I’ve come back with fond memories of my trip.”Katrina Kaif has just returned from Egypt after shooting a song with her favourite co-star, Akshay Kumar, for the keenly awaited Singh Is Kinng.
Ask her about the song she shot, Jee Karda, she smiles, “Wait and watch. It should be on air later this month. We shot at 4am every day to capture the light and it was scorching. To keep cool we would stay in shades and sip fruit juice or mint tea.”

But her recent tour to the African land almost got into trouble when local police reportedly arrived at the scene and objected to Katrina’s outfit that exposed her bare legs while she was shooting against the backdrop of the great pyramids along with Akki.

Egypt is predominantly a Muslim nation and revealing outfits are not accepted in public places.

According to reports director Anees Bazmee, who was determined to shoot at the pyramids, managed to get the matter resolved with the help of others. And another skirt controversy was successfully skirted.

Bollywood actor Ajay Devgan is working on story ideas for his future films.

Ajay Devgan

New Delhi, (IANS) After turning director with “U, Me Aur Hum”, Bollywood actor Ajay Devgan is working on story ideas for his future films.“Whenever there are breaks between shots, I come back to my vanity van and start thinking of story ideas and often have a small chat with my writers bouncing ideas. Let’s see, if all goes well, I will have something interesting soon,” Ajay wrote on his blog.

The actor was shooting for his film “Toonpur Ka Superhero” in Mumbai with his wife Kajol when he wrote the blog entry. He is also set to produce three films under his banner this year, one of which he would be directing as well.

He has zeroed in on Rohit Shetty of “Sunday” and “Golmaal” fame to direct one film for him. The third film, however, is still being scripted.

Ajay, who along with Kajol and mother-in-law Tanuja is on the jury panel for Zee TV’s reality show “Rock N Roll Family”, will also be active on the acting front.

He has on his hands Shetty’s “Golmaal Returns”, Kumar Mangat’s “Toonpur Ka Superhero”, Prakash Jha’s “Rajniti” and Vipul Shah’s “London Dreams”.

Superstar Sanjay Dutt is very serious about turning his lifestyle around.

Sanjay Dutt

Superstar Sanjay Dutt is very serious about turning his lifestyle around. Dutt who has been training vigourously for his look in his next flick Blue has also stopped having any alcohol. Sanju’s trainer Lawrence says that this time around Dutt wants to completely turn around his lifestyle.
Sanjay’s body building goes deeper than the desired outer package. He’s been through so much not to forget the difficult legal issues. All through this he’s been a warrior. Now, with this new image he’s trying to create a new life. He has given up his drinking completely. Now he has good grab on his lifestyle and he’s completely refreshed and happy and smiling,” says Lawrence who has played an important role in Dutt’s turnaround.

But for all those who know Baba, they will agree that Sanjay has quite a playful side to him as well. Lawrence told us about a recent incident where he got to see the actor’s childish side.

“On Wednesday night when I told Sanjay ‘come on we gotta do some squats’ he went, ‘Aww… my back is not good.’ Then I winked to my other buddies and said ‘All right you don’t want do it that’s fine. But these guys aren’t having any back problem so they’ll have to do it. When everyone else agreed to workout, Sanjay got the hint that probably his fib got caught. Eventually he did the squat regime,” he says.

So while Sanjay may not like to do squats, Lawrence says stomach crunches on the other hand are quite a hit with the star.

“He loves doing it, more so because all of his fans are looking forward to those eight packs!” says Lawrence, “There is one more thing that can make Sanjay like any exercise he does - The presence of Maanyata. When they both are together there is so much positivity… it shows in the way Sanjay exercises.”
